New age of empires 410/8/2023 ![]() The only keeps I have even been slightly effective with are the English ones. By the Imperial Age just a few bombards will melt a keep in seconds. In AoE4 you get trebuchets and keeps at the same time, and crucially trebuchets outrange keeps. One of the major benefits of the Imperial Age, conversely, was getting trebuchets. when map control becomes important, since you would be building additional TCs and be running out of resources (primarily gold) at home. Couple this with the generally slower pace of AoE2 and castles were _the_ defining feature of teching up to Castle Age, and would give you map control over that area for quite a long time, which would also be the same time you'd be looking for resources around the map, i.e. In fact, a Castle Age castle would most of the time last into the Imperial Age, since you'd need trebuchets to effectively counter them. Coming from AoE2, I really don't understand how to use keeps.
